It isn't exactly chain maille but I made this chain. I'm still getting there. I'll have to go and check outKokopelli's blog for further inspiration! :-)
A fellow beader gave me a simple description of chain maille: jump rings connected in a repeating pattern. That's what you did, so it is chain maille! :-) I bought a chain maille book last week and boy, what you can do with only one chain pattern! I should stop looking and start working!
